MILFORD, MA – In time for the start of the summer 2019 season, Consigli Construction Co., Inc. has completed construction of a new four-building complex at the Tanglewood Festival in Lenox, MA. The state-of-the-art Linde Center for Music and Learning will support the performances and rehearsal activities of the Tanglewood Music Center, the Boston Symphony Orchestra’s (BSO) prestigious summer music academy, and the Tanglewood Learning Institute (TLI), a new initiative that offers wide-ranging education and enrichment programs to enhance the patron experience. This new complex makes it possible for the first time ever for Tanglewood facilities to be open year-round.

The $33 million complex is the largest building project at Tanglewood since the construction of Ozawa Hall, built in 1994. The new performance and rehearsal facilities can accommodate an audience of up to 200 people. The complex also encompasses multimedia education and lecture program spaces with a seating capacity of up to 300 people and a wide variety of social and dining events such as a 150-seat dining cafe for visitors.

“We are thrilled to have been a part of this transformative project at one of the world’s most influential cultural institutions,” said Anthony Consigli, CEO of Consigli. “The entire team put a lot of craftsmanship, hard work, and collaboration into these buildings which are transformative for the Boston Symphony Orchestra and the larger community. The advanced facilities have created a year-round complex which will expand Tanglewood’s reach and attract newcomers.”

These four highly sustainable buildings on the 524-acre Tanglewood campus were purposefully designed to be climate-controlled, so they can be used by the Berkshire community in the off-season. The signature facilities feature buildings shaped and built with world-class materials for the best possible acoustics, high-end HVAC systems, sound and vibration isolation treatments, wood and curtain wall façade and intricate millwork fabricated by Consigli and installed by the company’s self-perform team.

“Tanglewood’s new building complex matches the extraordinary level of talent exhibited by the BSO each summer,” said Mark Volpe, managing director of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. “We’re grateful to Consigli, and all the subcontractors involved who helped bring our vision for the future of our programs to life by constructing much needed state-of-the-art rehearsal, performance, and educational space.”

The Consigli team worked to fast-track early construction to ensure the building was enclosed by the start of Tanglewood’s 2018 summer season. The team continued interior work to finish in time for the 2019 summer season. Consigli worked with architecture firm William Rawn Associates Architects on this project, and the new complex is pending USGBC LEED Gold certification.

You can find a schedule of Tanglewood’s 2019 summer events here.
